St. Louis World Series 2003 Results

The Bandits only two losses in championship play were to the Mississippi Tornadoes who won the 2003 National Championship and Mobile Alabama Sharks who finished second!

#6 Mobile Alabama 13 #17 Bandits 5
With a 15 minute break between games the Bandits saw their season end at the hands of the Mobile Alabama State Champs. The Bandits finished the year with a record of 77 wins and 14 losses and “Fifth in the Nation” status among the 60 teams qualified to play in the National Championship Tournament.

Offensive Leaders: Kyle Bumpas 1-2; Justin Lopez 1-2 and Luis Saenz 1-2.
Eleven year old Kyle Bumpas led his 12 year old Bandit teammates in the tournament with 17 hits in 23 at bats and 6 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 17 stolen bases, 1 pitching win, 1 save, 1 hold and 28 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched.

The Bandits defeated the Oklahoma State Champs
Kyle Bumpas hit a 2 out, 2 strike, 2-run opposite field fence clearing home run to tie the game at 7 in the bottom of the 6th inning. Matthew Ortega hit a “walk-off” single in the bottom of the 8th inning to score George Stoltz with the winning run in a 3 hour game.
Winning Pitcher: Julio Velez 1 Inning in relief
Kyle Bumpas tossed 7 innings
Offensive Leaders: Cory Falvey 2-2; Kyle Bumpas 2-3 with a Home Run; George Stoltz 2-4, Luis Saenz 1-2; Isaac Herrera 1-3 and Matthew Ortega 1-3.

The Bandits defeated the Louisiana State Champs
Winning Pitcher: Luis Saenz allowed 4 hits with 4 K’s in a complete game effort

#4 Mississippi Tornadoes 12 #17 Bandits 9
The Bandits were defeated by the 2002 USSSA National Champs. The game featured 4 home runs and 27 hits with 15 strikeouts. The Tornadoes outhit the Bandits 14-13.

Winning Pitcher: Kyle Bumpas threw a 3 hit shutout with 12 K’s.
The Bandits defeated the Missouri State Champs and the number one seed at the conclusion of pool play.
Offensive Leaders: Kyle Bumpas 3-3; George Stoltz 1-1; Matthew Ortega 1-2 and Cory Falvey 1-3.

#17 Bandits 13 #16 Iowa Saints 7
The Bandits broke a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the 5th inning spurred by a 2 run double by Cory Falvey to lead the way to a 6 run 5th inning and defeated the Iowa State Champs. The Saints finished pool play seeded #16 against the #17 Bandits.

The Bandits qualified for the championship bracket by placing 17 out of the top 32 teams. The bottom 28 will play in consolation bracket. Last year’s National Champion did not qualify for Championship pool play finishing 44th of the field of 60.
Offensive Leaders: Cory Falvey 2-2; Kyle Bumpas 1-1; Andrew Hernandez 1-2 and Matthew Ortega 1-3.
The Bandits finished 2-1 and tied for the top spot in their pool.
