Bandits in Pros: Omar Quintanilla (Rockies), Kyle Anson (Yankees) Lance Sewell (A’s) sent down

Bandit Kyle Anson was sent down by the New York Yankees on March 21, 2008. During Spring training with the Major League club he caught Mike Mussina, Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy Russ Ohlendorf and Brian Bruney in Spring games. He has caught other Yankee hurlers in intrasquad games as well. Anson is currently assigned to the Yankees A affiliate Charleston RiverDogs in Charleston South Carolina.

Omar Quintanilla was seeing action at both middle infield spots for the Colorado Rockies. The former Texas Longhorn who was a supplemental first round pick for the Oakland A’s is competing for a permanent spot on the Big League roster. Omar is on the Rockies 40 man squad and was called up a couple of times during the 2007 season including a September call up for the stretch run and Playoffs. He has been assigned to the Triple A Colorado Springs Sky Sox.

Lance Sewell has been assigned to the Vancouver Canadians single A affiliate by the Oakland Athletics. Sewell was a June draft selection from San Diego State.

On Monday March 17, Kyle came in to catch the final two innings of the Yankees 8-4 win over the Boston Red Sox. Kyle did not get a plate appearance but did have a throwing error. He is hitting .333 this Spring.

March 17: Omar Qunitanilla went 0-2 for the Colorado Rockies and played shortstop for the last half of their game. He is hitting .278 through March 17 and seeing action as a back up middle infielder for the Rockies.

On Saturday March 8, Kyle came in to catch Russ Ohlendorf in the ninth inning of their game which the Yankees lost 4-1 to the Tampa Rays. He grounded out in his only plate appearance.

On Thursday March 6, During the morning intrasquad game, catcher Kyle Anson drilled pitcher Chase Wright in his rear end while trying to throw a runner out at second base. “It’s kind of funny,” said Wright, who remained in the game.

On Monday March 3, he went 1X1 and caught the final three innings of their win against the Houston Astros on Monday March 3. In the meantime, he is making the most of his time working out with Jorge Posada, Derek Jeter, ARod and catching Joba Chamberlin and other Yankee hurlers.
