Ed Beard joins Angels Heavenly Batting Order

Fighting a battle with cancer that typified his spirit, “Big Ed” Beard passed away Thursday evening December 10. Ed was my mentor who provided a guiding light through the early years of my coaching journey. He owned Hirby Pest Control and allowed me to start my first team from the bottom up in 1978. Our team introduced the “astro” style uniforms, white shoes and individual player bags at a time when they were not the standard at any level of baseball in El Paso. Always a teacher at heart and never satisfied he pushed and drove everyone to excel and go beyond. He is the uncle to Coach John Beard who is the Head Baseball Coach at 1-5A El Dorado. Please continue to Pray for his wife Rose, son Eddie, Daughter Eraceli Rose “Pookie”, Coach John Beard and all their Family. He was a second Dad to me and I am Blessed to have been with him at his bedside in his final days and moments.
