2006 Bandits 14 Final Series

The Bandits swept both competitions at Opening Ceremonies
In the first team event of the World Series: The Bandits won the “around the horn” competition with the best time and earned individual awards
In the second and final event of the evening; Kyle Bumpas defeated the defending National Home Run Derby Champion from the Brazos Blaze to win the 2006 Super Series National Home Run Derby Competition. Kyle had 14 home runs in his first round and trailed by 1 to last year’s champion. In round 2 Kyle easily won hitting 8 home runs to 5 for his next closest competitor. Nathan Pena finished tied for 6th hitting 10 home runs and missing the second round by 1. The competition included hitters from both the National and American Divisions and the field had 46 participants (2 from each team).

Nathan Pena was selected to Super Series World Series All Tournament Team after leading the Bandits with a .438 batting average for the series.

Eric Stoltz had an outstanding offensive series as well hitting .400 and Kyle Bumpas pitched 10 1/3 innings struck out 22 batters and allowed 5 hits, 3 runs and only 2 walks. Kyle had a loss in relief on Tuesday pitching 2/3 of an inning and followed that with a save in 2 2/3 innings of game one on Wednesday allowing no runs and a complete 7 inning victory in game 2 on Wednesday. Brian Hebblethwaite pitched 6 1/3 innings in game one on Tuesday and only allowed 2 runs on 3 hits. Lance Gruber pitched a complete 3 inning game on Monday and only allowed 2 runs on 3 hits.
